Say Hi to Alec's First Post!

Alec went to Mexico for his spring break, where he got a chance to learn about the ancient Mayans and see some of the ruins of their lost civilization.  He traveled to three Mayan sites in all:  Coba, Chichen Itza, and Ek Balam.  Unfortunely, Alec forgot his camera in Coba, but he did manage to take over 100 amazing photographs at the other places.  Here is his report.

On the first day at Chichen Itza, we went out to the scorching hot jungle, where the pyramids are. The biggest one was at least 300 feet tall, if not more.

There's my dad taking photos. He took more than 1200 photos.  (Edit: Alec's Dad's Flicker site is http://www.flickr.com/photos/willosimages)

This is the temple of the warriors. There are at least 100 columns with beautiful carvings in it.

These are some of the souvenirs that people are selling in Chichen Itza.

We saw at least 12 iguanas a day.

Here are some more glyphs.

The cenote was a giant hole filled with water so deep that scuba divers couldn't even go to the bottom without dying.

In the old days the ball court was very important because the winner would be sacrificed.

More temples.

This is the observatory.

Some pictures of myself.

The second day was very hot too. We went back to Chichen Itza earlier to visit some of the sites that were too crowded the day before.

Here we are watching THE MAGNIFICENT LIGHT SHOW!

On the third day we went to the top of a big Mayan pyramid.
